Brown’s analysis interrogates the scholarship around the concept of presidential psychology and leadership, while unpacking the connections between leadership in this complicated elected office and how we have, more recently, elected presidents who are often lacking in experience, and why this is problematic.</p><p><a class="ucb-link-button ucb-link-button-blue ucb-link-button-default ucb-link-button-large" href="https://youtu.be/GIXtlGTy9Ro" rel="nofollow"><span class="ucb-link-button-contents"><i class="fa-solid fa-video">&nbsp;</i>&nbsp;Watch the Recording Here&nbsp;</span></a></p><p>Presented by the&nbsp;<a href="/cwa/home" rel="nofollow">Â鶹ӰԺ Conference on World Affairs</a>&nbsp;and co-sponsored by the&nbsp;<a href="/lead/" rel="nofollow">Center for Leadership</a>.</p></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div>Traditional</div> <div>0</div> <div>On</div> <div>White</div> Tue, 27 Apr 2021 17:36:13 +0000 Anonymous 391 at /lead Centering Relationships & Building Trust /lead/2021/03/01/centering-relationships-building-trust <span>Centering Relationships &amp; Building Trust</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2021-03-01T10:45:48-07:00" title="Monday, March 1, 2021 - 10:45">Mon, 03/01/2021 - 10:45</time> </span> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle focal_image_wide"> <img loading="lazy" src="/lead/sites/default/files/styles/focal_image_wide/public/article-thumbnail/davidbrooksheadshot-weave_0.jpg?h=fc127d13&amp;itok=ODkiZVBC" width="1200" height="600" alt="David Brooks Headshot"> </div> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-categories" itemprop="about"> <span class="visually-hidden">Categories:</span> <div class="ucb-article-category-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-folder-open"></i> </div> <a href="/lead/taxonomy/term/39"> Past Lecture </a> </div> <div role="contentinfo" class="container ucb-article-tags" itemprop="keywords"> <span class="visually-hidden">Tags:</span> <div class="ucb-article-tag-icon" aria-hidden="true"> <i class="fa-solid fa-tags"></i> </div> <a href="/lead/taxonomy/term/41" hreflang="en">Past Lecture</a> </div> <div class="ucb-article-content ucb-striped-content"> <div class="container"> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--article-content paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div class="ucb-article-content-media ucb-article-content-media-above"> <div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--media paragraph--view-mode--default"> <div> <div class="imageMediaStyle large_image_style"> <img loading="lazy" src="/lead/sites/default/files/styles/large_image_style/public/article-image/screen_shot_2021-02-24_at_9.39.11_am.jpeg?itok=30wxzN8Y" width="1500" height="868" alt="Chancellor DiStefano, Allie Reuter, and David Brooks screenshot from Leo Hill Leadership Speaker Series Event"> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="ucb-article-text d-flex align-items-center" itemprop="articleBody"> <div><h2>Â鶹ӰԺ the Webinar</h2> <p>CU Â鶹ӰԺ's Center for Leadership presents David Brooks as the 2021 Leo Hill Leadership Speaker Series marquee speaker. Brooks&nbsp;presented Leadership: Centering Relationships and Building Trust, which illuminates how all citizens can be leaders in repairing our country’s social fabric. Brooks focused mostly on his work with Weave, an initiative within the Aspen Institute, that emphasizes a fundamental shift in the U.S. from hyperindividualism and personal success to relationalism that places relationships at the center of our lives.&nbsp;</p> <p>For&nbsp;far&nbsp;too&nbsp;long, Brooks says, successful leadership has been attributed to those who can do the most in the least time, generate the most revenue, and earn every promotion. How can ‘I’ be the best instead of how can ‘we’ move the needle. Today, our country needs more of the latter. A nation consumed with deep inequity, distrust, isolation and division can only be healed by leaders who build bridges, center connection, and deepen trust.</p> <h2>Â鶹ӰԺ the Speaker</h2> <p>Brooks&nbsp;joined the Aspen Institute in March 2018 to spearhead a bold new project aimed at bridging the differences that divide Americans and seeking out a compelling common ground. George and West represent monumentally different points of view politically, culturally, and socially, yet, they have been a public example of thoughtfulness and of a close friendship which is unbound by partisan divides. They have co-taught courses together, written together, and have traveled the globe speaking together about the importance of liberal education and honest civil dialogue.
