Scholarship Description

The Colorado Defense Lawyers Association (“CDLA”) is committed to encouraging and fostering young lawyers intending to join Colorado’s vibrant defense community. The CDLA is seeking qualified applicants for its annual scholarship to Colorado law students. The scholarship will be awarded to one student attending the University of Colorado at �鶹ӰԺ Law School and one student attending the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Each recipient will receive $3,000.

Eligibility

The scholarship will be awarded to Colorado law students who are in the second semester of their second year of law school (“rising 3Ls”). The applicant must attend either the University of Colorado Law School or the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. Preference will be given to law students who intend to practice civil and/or administrative law defense work in Colorado and have demonstrated interest in this work.

Application Requirements

1. A personal statement on why you intend to join the civil and/or administrative law defense community in Colorado and what your unique contributions will be to this community. The statement cannot be longer than 500 words. Successful statements will discuss their demonstrated interest in this work (e.g., internships/externships/volunteer work, coursework, clubs/organizations/journals, and work experience), as well as discuss how their personal background will uniquely contribute to the Colorado legal community and/or the defense bar (e.g., distinctive life experiences, membership in an underrepresented community, past or future volunteer/non-profit work, and plans for their defense practice).

2. Current curriculum vitae. Must include your anticipated graduation date and current GPA.

3. Two letters of reference from a person who can speak to your demonstrated interest in practicing civil and/or administrative defense work in Colorado.
