On Jan. 8, 2018, Professor delivered the opening keynote address at the Tarragona Center for Environmental Law Studies conference, held at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Catalonia Spain.
Guruswamy’s talk, “Energy Poverty: Justice and Women,” explored how five different strands of international law could intertwine. Topics addressed included sustainable development, energy poverty, women suffering due to lack of access to energy, and affordable sustainable energy technologies and justice. The talk, which was delivered via video conference, will form the basis for a chapter in Guruswamy’s forthcoming book on environmental justice/sustainable development, to be published by Cambridge University Press.
As the Nicholas Doman Professor of International Environmental Law & International Energy Programs at Colorado Law, Guruswamy teaches international environmental law, global energy justice, oil and international relations, and international law. Additionally, he directs the international energy programs at the Getches-Wilkinson Center. Guruswamy’s research examines how and why energy justice requires practical energy solutions for the energy poor in the developing world. Interdisciplinary approaches characterize his research. Guruswamy is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in international environmental and global energy law.
