Woolner is investigating how land managers in the Front Range are integrating information about public values into decision-making processes. She is part of the , led by Keith Musselman.

She studies the relationships between the public, land management communities, and the research community in Colorado and the Great Plains. Woolner uses mixed methods analyses and rigorous qualitative approaches to understand these communities' values and decision-making under the rapid ecological changes happening in these regions.
