Does showing graphic images help the prosecution in its quest for the death penalty?

The jury is 鈥渁 wild card,鈥 says an investigative source. Does showing graphic images like those help the prosecution in its quest for the death penalty? Or does it help the defense and save the defendant鈥檚 life?
