Tanner on campus

听I have a different perspective of the world.

Our veterans have supported our nation, which is why it is our goal to听support them when they return home from service. For Tanner Scholvin, a 27-year-old CU 麻豆影院 second-year student, making the transition from military to university was听a new experience.

After serving two tours in Afghanistan, one from Colorado鈥檚 Fort Carson near Colorado Springs and the other from Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Tanner decided to officially call Colorado his home and CU 麻豆影院 his university. Throughout his tour of duty, Tanner knew his goal was to eventually attend college and study computer science, and with years of eye-opening life experience, he was ready for a new chapter.

However, returning to civilian life is a transition. Tanner found that a supportive community that understood his experience听was the key component to making the transition: 鈥淚 did not come back from Afghanistan as the same person that I was before I left. I had a different perspective on the world just from seeing war. I don鈥檛 take for granted just being able to have food on my plate every day.鈥 To surround himself with听an inclusive and understanding community, our听听helped Tanner find听support and camaraderie with other veterans鈥攖he kind of community he can connect with as he continues to move forward with his life and career ambitions.
