BEFORE YOUR FIRST SEMESTER:
Consult with the Associate Chair of Graduate Studies regarding your plan of study and to select courses for your first semester.听

FIRST SEMESTER:
- Register for 9-10 hours of coursework: RUSS 5110 or 5120; RUSS 5010-4 credits (native speakers are exempt from RUSS 5010); RUSS 5050, another graduate-level Russian course, or a course in your outside area.
听
SECOND SEMESTER:
- Register for 9-10 hours of coursework: RUSS 5020-4 credits (native speakers are exempt from RUSS 5020); RUSS 5230; one-two graduate-level Russian course(s), or a course in your outside area.

THIRD SEMESTER:
- Register for 6-9 hours of coursework: RUSS 5110 or 5120; another graduate-level Russian course, or a course in your outside area.
- You should think about which faculty members you would like to have on your exam committee.
- Meet with your faculty mentor to discuss your M.A. final exam reading list.
- At the end of your third semester, you must have a preliminary reading list (for your final exam) of about 12-15 works approved by the Associate Chair of Graduate Studies, so that you can begin to read over the semester break.

FOURTH SEMESTER:
- Register for 3-6 hours of coursework:听 one to two graduate-level Russian course(s), an independent study, or a course in your outside area.
- Early in the semester, schedule your final exam defense and notify the Graduate Program Assistant of defense date and time, and committee members.
- Early in the semester, take the Russian language proficiency exam.
- By the 11th week of the semester, you should take your written exam, to be followed by your oral final examination a week later.
