German Major Nicholas Zyzda was awarded a Summer Fellowship from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP). Nick receives the scholarship for a research project investigating the literary representation of madness in Georg B眉chner鈥檚 1836 novella Lenz. Drawing on psychological, medical, and literary discourses, Nick鈥檚 research approaches the systematic problem that the phenomenon of madness in the 19th century poses for the rational discourse of science. Nick鈥檚 research is supported and mentored by Arne H枚cker, Assistant Professor of German.
