This unique anthropology course surveys the controversial policies and impacts of the “war on drugs” in both domestic and international contexts. The histories, economics, and politics of drug prohibition and legalization are embedded in both culture and power. Drugs studied include alcohol, peyote, cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, crystal meth, LSD, and psilocybin, all in deep cultural context. Approved for Arts & Sciences Gen Ed: Social Sciences
