The Fulbright-Nehru Research Fellowship is a joint education agreement between the governments of the United States and India and serves as a key pillar of strategic dialogue between the two governments through academic exchanges and collaborations. The fellowship is designed to expand and strengthen relationships between the people of the United States and citizens of India and to promote international understanding and cooperation. The Fulbright-Nehru Research Fellowship is funded by the United States-India Educational Foundation.

During her fellowship year in India, Tsering will be conducting her doctoral dissertation research titled ‘Caterpillar Fungus and the Making of Borderland Lives in Sikkim Himalayas.’ Using the caterpillar fungus as an analytical lens, Tsering’s research examines the multi-layered lived experiences, and subjectivities of Himalayan borderland communities who inhabit a geopolitically contested space with overlapping scales of authorities. In centering the embodied experiences of the people most impacted, her research will geographically examine Himalayan geopolitics from below from a non-state centric lens.
