The American Association of Geographers annual meeting was held April 3-7, 2019, in Washington, DC. The conference hosted nearly 8,500 geographers, GIS specialists, environmental scientists, and other registrants from around the world sharing the very latest in research, policy, and applications in geography, sustainability, and GIScience. The featured themes of the week-long event were: Geography, GIScience, and Health: Building the International Geospatial Health Research Network (IGHRN); Geographies of Human Rights: The Right to Benefit from Scientific Progress; and Physical Geography in Environmental Science. Attendees enjoyed the diversity of local food and the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, which attracts millions, as well as the divergent history of the surrounding region. Of those attending, thousands, representing almost 30 percent came from countries other than the USA, which continues a steady trend toward increased international participation at AAG Meetings. This year, attendees came from 78 different countries. The largest participation of scholars from outside of the U.S. came from United Kingdom, Canada, China, Germany, Australia, France, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Sweden, among many others. The international attendance greatly enriched the intellectual and social events throughout the week-long conference.
