Ph.D. candidate Mike MacFerrin, along with his adviser Dr. Waleed Abdalati and collaborators at the University of Washington, received notice of a NASA award for MacFerrin's proposal "Quantifying Firn Compaction and its Implications for Altimetry-based Mass Balance Estimates of the Greenland Ice Sheet." The project (3-years, $733,000) will complete MacFerrin's PhD work and fund a post-doctoral research position in the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), leading field campaigns across the Greenland ice sheet for the next several years.
