From Oct. 23 through Nov. 15, portions of the courtyard walkway around the Discovery Learning Center; Integrated Teaching and Learning Lab; Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering building; and Electrical, Computer & Energy Engineering building will be impacted due to sewer repairs. Walking access will be maintained around work areas. Utility services will not be affected.

Construction of the Colorado Highway 119 Safety, Mobility and Bikeway Improvements Project has started and will be ongoing through 2027. Once complete, the corridor will have improved bike and bus facilities, and safer and more efficient intersections for all users. In the short term, The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) , the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and �鶹ӰԺ County will be working together to mitigate traffic congestion, delays and crashes and expand transportation options throughout this project. Your usual travel route may be impacted by construction, traffic delays and increased congestion throughout the project.

Immediate impacts:

Niwot Park-n-ride lot will close temporarily, but bus stops will remain active.
Bus stops at north and southbound CO 119 and bus stops at CO 52 (near IBM) will close beginning Sept. 29.
Additionally, there will be lane closures at various times near the following intersections: Jay Road, CO 52, 71st Street, Niwot Road, Oxford Road, 83rd Street, and Airport and Connector roads

The city of �鶹ӰԺ has implemented changes to the lanes on Colorado Avenue that may affect your daily commute. These improvements are part of a broader effort to create a safer and more efficient transportation system for our entire community, and they are expected to strengthen the connection between Main Campus and East Campus.

What’s happening?

In June, the city converted the outside vehicle lanes on Colorado Avenue to bus and right-turn lanes between Folsom Street and 30th Street. This change, which includes the use of signage and red street markings to designate the bus lanes, aligns with the recommendations of the 2019 30th Street and Colorado Avenue Corridors Study.

How will this affect you?

For bus riders: If you ride the bus, these changes are designed to shorten your travel times by reducing delays due to traffic congestion. This improvement benefits nearly 12,000 daily bus riders who use Buff Bus service along the Colorado Avenue corridor.
For drivers:Please use the inside lanes for through traffic on Colorado Avenue, as the outside lanes are now designated for buses only. Right turns at side streets and driveways are still permitted from the bus lanes.
During events:Please follow instructions provided by those directing traffic at large events on campus, including concerts, football games and conferences.

Future plans and ongoing efforts

CU �鶹ӰԺ remains committed to collaborating on further improvements in the future, including potential changes between 30th Street and Discovery Drive. The city’s 30th Street Multimodal Improvements Project, expected to be completed in early 2025, will enhance the area between Colorado Avenue and Arapahoe Avenue with protected bike lanes, wider sidewalks and new landscaping. In summer 2025, �鶹ӰԺ’s Pavement Management Program will repave Colorado Avenue between Folsom Street and 30th Street.

Campus construction on Regent Drive near the Coors Events Center may cause delays to Buff Buses and other traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regent Drive will be reduced to one lane during these hours, and flaggers will be directing traffic. Please plan accordingly, as you may need to leave early to arrive on time.

Construction has begun for the on campus Limelight Hotel �鶹ӰԺ. The Limelight Conference Center and Hotel at the 1400 block of Broadway will fill the gap in large conference space in the City of �鶹ӰԺ. With approximately 250 rooms and a 15,000-square-foot ballroom, the project will bring a unique venue to the community, capable of hosting events of all sizes, from prominent academic and research conferences to small community gatherings. It will provide a space for innovation and collaboration both locally and internationally.

The project website includes renderings and FAQs, and will provide ongoing updates on construction.

Work will begin at the southern end of the corridor between Colorado Avenue and �鶹ӰԺ Creek Path this spring and continue through summer 2024. Travelers can expect single vehicle lane closures and the east side sidewalk of 30th Street to be closed in this segment. Throughout construction, travelers can expect periodic delays and flaggers guiding traffic; RTD Bound stop impacts and detours for people walking and biking. Residence One will be the first new, modern housing building to open in the area, North �鶹ӰԺ Creek (NBC). It will house up to 350 upper-division or graduate students in on-campus apartment-style housing. It will provide neighborhood amenities such as a café, mail store, and a variety of study space that will serve the students within the surrounding NBC community. In 2021 a structural assessment of the building was completed by a structural engineer. A/E team is currently developing a design to address the recommendations of the report. The scope of work being evaluated consists of: a full structural restoration of the exterior façade of Old Main, foundation repairs and waterproofing, door and window repair and glazing replacement, exterior stair replacement/repairs, chimney & truss repairs, landscape and civil engineering restoration immediately around the building, and Pleasant Street long-term planning and short-term improvements.

Budget: $13.4 million

On May 31, 2024, at 5 p.m. the Leonard H. Gemmill Engineering, Math & Physics Library, located in the Mathematics Building, will close for renovations. Our timeline for reopening right now is summer 2025. These renovations are needed to restore Gemmill Library after water damage that occurred on Jan. 7, 2022. This will include replacing the current stacks that were outdated and damaged by the water event.

Gemmill collections will not be physically browsable during the renovations. Collections will be accessible by request during the closure. Campus affiliates can place holds on items in the physical collections and have them delivered to any of our open library locations. Faculty can also have books delivered to their campus mailbox.

The Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences & Map Library, located in the Benson Earth Sciences Building, will extend their regular semester hours (Fall/Spring) until 8 p.m. during the closure, and periodicals and popular science reading will move to that library space for browsing. Course reserves will also be available at the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences & Map Library. The book return box outside Gemmill Library will remain accessible. The William M. White Business Library, which is located in the Koebel Building (Leeds School of Business), is also close by for those who work and study in the vicinity of the Engineering complex.
