Electrical Computer and Energy Engineering

Last Updated: August 2023

Thomas Dearing is a former PhD student in the Systems and Controls Group聽at CU 麻豆影院 under the joint supervision of Marco Nicotra and Xudong Chen. He聽graduated with a dual B.S. in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and was also a lead technical engineer in the Optical and Photonic Microsystems group at .

His research at CU boulder initially focused聽on Formation Control of Multi-Agent Systems聽as well as the classification of controllable sparse matrix spaces in linear systems. In addition, he pursued聽research with Sandia National Labs relating to the development of new communications technologies in non-conductive solid materials. After a summer internship at the , his focus shifted to optimal Spacecraft Attitude Control.

In 2020, Tommy was selected by the聽聽for a three-year research scholarship. He graduated in May 2023 and, after a brief stint as a postdoc in my research group, accepted a full-time position at 聽here in Colorado.

His research interests include:

  • Decentralized multi-agent control systems
  • Control of cooperative robotic systems
  • Optimal Control
  • Attitude Control
  • An ongoing investigation into the non-conservation of free time in graduate research
