Microbiologist Position: Bacterial Transport and Containment Interactions Laboratory

Types of Services Required:
Services may include the following activities: Preparing water and soil samples for DNA extraction; DNA quantitation; Q-PCR; Flow Cytometry; Particle sizing; Zeta Potential; column studies; chemical analyses of water samples; weighing of chemicals and mixing solutions for chemical and biological analyses; preparing standard solutions for analytical calibration curve analyses; washing glassware; operating and maintaining laboratory equipment; entering data into spreadsheets and databases; compiling data spreadsheets; DNA sequence analysis; graphing and analyzing data; writing up results; photocopying; filing; cleaning; sweeping; and additional tasks that may be assigned based on worker鈥檚 aptitude. Student may be required to drive a government vehicle. Must be motivated and a self-starter. Inquire for further job requirements.
Required Expertise/Skills:
Recent Graduate Position: Former students who graduated within the last 12 months with a master鈥檚 or equivalent graduate degree (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) in microbiology or specific area of study such as bacteriology, virology, microbial genetics, environmental engineering, or soil microbiology, or specific applied fields of microbiology such as clinical and public health microbiology, food technology, production processes, industrial fermentation, pollution, etc. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Skill in applying standard and microbiology laboratory techniques and use of related equipment (such as Q-PCR, gel electrophoresis, volumetric flasks, analytical balance). General knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology principles and terminology including graduate-level microbiology, molecular biology and chemistry. Knowledge of basic computer operations and programs (such as Microsoft Word and Excel). Experience with R a plus. Must pay attention to detail, have the ability to follow written and oral directions, and must be reliable, punctual, responsible and able to work independently.
Description of Working Conditions:
Work will be performed in a laboratory. Long periods of standing will be required. Some heavy lifting may be required. Student will be required to wear safety apparel and to closely observe safety requirements. Duties require good manual dexterity. Student should be able to lift up to 40 lb packages.
Compensation:
$23.66 - $28.94 per hour (inquire for details)
Principal Duty Station:
麻豆影院, Colorado (east campus of University of Colorado)
Other Information:
This laboratory is seeking a student who is willing to work full time.
