Bamboo Construction TripBamboo Construction/ Earthquake /Sustainable Design Opportunity/Summer Break (May 13th-23th)听

Informational Meeting Coming Up Tuesday, Jan 31st from 5-6PM in ECCE 1B41!

Are you interested in architecture, sustainable design, the environment, engineering, volunteer work, and/or traveling? Do you like bamboo? Do you want to make an impactful difference in a community in coastal Ecuador? Are you interested in taking long walks on the beach over Summer Break? Join other CU students this May to build a bamboo structure and contribute to earthquake relief!

Last April, a disastrous earthquake struck coastal Ecuador that cost thousands of people to lose their loved ones, livelihoods, and homes.

This summer break, a CU student is organizing an earthquake response team, specifically to harness the power and strength of bamboo to rebuild the community of Bahia de Caraquez, Ecuador. Students will receive lessons and instruction from Ecuadorian architectural professors, carpenters, and bamboo farmers who have been actively forming coalitions and rebuilding since the earthquake, as well as have the opportunity to collaborate with local university and architecture students. Students will also be instructed in the usage of power tools with the ultimate goal of building a house for a family that was hurt in the earthquake. The benefit is mutual; while Bahia gains a new, seismically sound structure, CU students will receive a unique academic opportunity combining sustainable design and international relations.

We would like to welcome students of all backgrounds and interests in fields related to the project鈥擜rchitecture, Sustainable Environmental Design, Environmental Studies, Latin American Studies, Civil Engineering, International Relations, and more. Since this is an earthquake response, it is the second trip of its kind following in the footsteps of UC Berkeley鈥檚 immediate response this January; all students would be eco-action pioneers for the first led trip from CU 麻豆影院!
