Sydney was born and raised in Maryland and received her Bachelors in Public Policy with a concentration in Race & Gender Justice and a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research is rooted in black existentialist philosophy and interrogates processes of reproduction and gestation. Her work seeks to deepen and complicate philosophical understandings of the black maternal body and experience, in the context of an anti-black world.
