CoNPS Alice Eastwood Scholarship

The Alice Eastwood Scholarship is administered by the Colorado Native Plant Society (CoNPS) in collaboration with the Alice Eastwood Collective. The Scholarship is intended to support undergraduates pursuing bachelor鈥檚 degrees that ultimately advance the Mission of the Society:

鈥淭he Colorado Native Plant Society is dedicated to furthering the knowledge,

appreciation and conservation of native plants and habitats of Colorado through

education, stewardship and advocacy.鈥

Award

Two scholarships of $475 鈥 Eastwood鈥檚 annual salary earned while teaching at Denver East High School (1879-1890) 鈥 are administered annually by CoNPS. Qualified applicants, whether or not they are selected as recipients, will receive a student membership in the Society.

  • Applicants must be undergraduates pursuing bachelor鈥檚 degrees that ultimately advance the Mission of the Society, including botany, ecology, conservation, landscape architecture, horticulture, or environmental science emphasizing native plants.
  • At the time a scholarship application is submitted, applicants must be registered fulltime for classes during the upcoming Fall Semester.
  • Scholarships will be administered following census date (tenth day of classes) and proof of full-time registration.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit a concise but detailed application attached to an email Conpsoffice@aol.com (ATTN: Eastwood Scholarship Selection Committee) by 1 August; cc: leo.bruederle@ucdenver.edu. Complete applications will include the following:

  • Applicant鈥檚 legal name, academic institution, student number, mailing address, email address, and phone number;
  • Unofficial transcripts (downloaded from college or university is acceptable);
  • Resume (1 page in length);
  • Essay (1 page in length with 1鈥 margins, 12pt font, and single line-spacing) addressing the following questions:
    • What is your field of study and how did you select it?
    • What are your short-term and long-term career goals.
    • Describe any co- or extra-curricular activities pertinent to your career goals?
    • Describe any work experience pertinent to your career goals. This experience could be science-related or more generally applicable to professional development.
    • Describe any area(s) of specialization.
  • Contact information for a faculty member who is able to address the aforementioned.

As a condition of the award, recipients will be asked to:

  • Provide brief documentation of how the scholarship was used (e.g., tuition, books);
  • Attend the annual conference of the Colorado Native Plant Society or a meeting of a local chapter of the Colorado Native Plant Society
