Students completing honors in undergraduate thesis work are required to seek out an Environmental Design faculty member to chair their thesis committee. On Monday, Oct. 4, ENVD honors students switched it up. During a chair mixer, hosted in third-floor studio space, each student rotated between other chairs from different disciplines to gain interdisciplinary perspectives on their research question and methods.

Given constraints of five minutes using five slides, students had to convey their entire process to an outside faculty professional. Honors thesis students will integrate the feedback into their work, which they'll continue to revise until the final presentation is due in early December. In the spring, students will present their concluded research at the Honors Symposium in March.

Last month, the Environmental Design honors thesis students took part in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Sidewalk Symposium. The Sidewalk Symposium encourages undergraduates to create and share their research and creative presentations with chalk on campus walkways.

Passerbys could view the honors thesis sidewalk chalk art and graphics in the Visual Arts Plaza, an area tucked between the ENVD building and the UMC.

"This was a great opportunity to display some of the novel undergraduate research in ENVD to the greater CU Community," ENVD Instructor Danielle Bilot said.

Last month, the Environmental Design honors thesis students took part in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Sidewalk Symposium.

Next Friday, March 8, 2019, Environmental Design will host its annual Honors Symposium. This event gives ENVD honors students the opportunity to present their honors projects to an audience, and open the floor for questions and discussions.

This year, ten students will be presenting honors projects. See them present on March 8, from 12 - 1:30 p.m. in ENVD 134. Learn more about their topics below.

Every spring, ENVD opens applications for the Honors Thesis Program. Students who are interested in pursuing design and research topics can submit their ideas to be reviewed by the Honors Council. The honors application process is highly competitive, requiring a high GPA, as well as a topic and research question or design problem.

We’d like to congratulate the following 17 students for being accepted into the Honors Thesis Program. Next fall, they will take an advanced research methods class and begin working intensely on their topics. In spring 2019, the students will take an independent study under the guidance of their thesis committee chair, and defend their theses in March.
