Lattice First Generation Scholarship Program Mentors (Student Employee)
Â鶹ӰԺ the Lattice Program
The Lattice Program is a new initiative that provides participating students, known as Lattice Scholars, with support in the areas of financial wellness, academic success, and building relationships and connections in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS). The goal of the Lattice Program is that scholars graduate from CEAS with skills and agency to practice responsible stewardship of personal and financial resources. The Lattice Program welcomes its first class of approximately 60 incoming students this fall. In addition to supporting students in building skills to thrive while at CEAS, a major focus of the program is financial wellness – exploring their relationship to money, understanding how to budget, practicing responsible resource stewardship.
Job Descriptions
The Lattice Program is hiring Lattice Mentors – current students in the College of Engineering & Applied Science – to join the Lattice Team.
- Compensation & Work: Lattice mentors will earn $18Ìýper hour. Mentors will work between 5-10 hours each week, with the possibility for additional work based on mentors’ involvement in special projects and other program activities.

First-Year Lattice Mentors will work closely with Lattice Program professional staff and play an essential role in the program by welcoming incoming Lattice Scholars, helping to build relationships, and by guiding and leading key conversations, connections, and activities with Lattice Scholars. Lattice mentors will work as a team to plan and facilitate individual or small group meetings with mentors, create and share resources with students, attend Lattice events with their mentees, and otherwise support Lattice Program events and activities. First-Year Lattice mentors will be matched with first-year Lattice Scholars and meet for bi-weekly check-ins with each mentee. Mentors will also attend monthly Lattice Community Events, hosted by the program, with mentees. In these different one-on-one and group settings, mentors will build relationships, initiate conversation, learn about and from their mentee, and offer support, advice, and referral/connection to resources.Ìý Mentors are expected to provide support based personal experience, Lattice Program training, and CU Â鶹ӰԺ campus policies.
The First-Year Lattice Mentor position will report to a Lattice Team staff member in the College of Engineering & Applied Science.
During the 2024-2025 Academic Year, Lattice Mentors are responsible for the following:
- Attending and helping to implement Lattice Events such as Lattice Retreats (weekends), Lattice workshops and community events (monthly), Lattice Year-End Celebration, etc., which will include evening and weekend work.
- Conducting 1:1 mentee meetings every two weeks (at regularly scheduled times) with recommended topics and objectives, tracking the dates and subjects of these meetings, and sharing concerns or themes with Lattice Staff.
- Attending monthly events with mentees on topics related to first-generation experience, engineering success, academic success, personal health and well-being, financial wellness, and more, in collaboration with the Lattice Mentor team and Lattice professional staff.Ìý
- Host office hours each week for mentees.
- Lead and engage in conversations related to topics that may feel taboo, such as money, academic challenges and success, transitions to college, etc.
- Complete weekly administrative tasks including: tracking mentoring activity, event planning, and assisting with an assigned special project committee (such as retreat planning, newsletter and communications, assessment, hiring, and more.
- Modeling and teaching key behaviors and skills in the following areas (training and preparation will be provided by Lattice Staff):
- Creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the Lattice program. Ìý
- Growth mindset toward academic learning, financial wellness, professional development, interpersonal relationships, and personal growth.
- Relational and humanizing approach to working with each other, Lattice Scholars, staff, and faculty.
- Strong interpersonal communication and relationships with peers, staff, and faculty.
- Community building within College of Engineering and CU Campus community and resources.
Lattice Mentors are required to attend and actively participate in the following:
- Lattice Mentor training, tentatively planned for (August 2024, before the start of fall semester). ÌýÌý
- Weekly Staff Meetings (at a time to be determined)
- Bi-weekly 1:1 meetings with mentees.
- Independent Mentor Office Hours (2-3 hours per week).
- Completing 2-4 hours each week of administrative work and special project committee work (with the possibility for additional project work based on program needs).
- Regular Lattice Events, including but not limited to:
- Lattice Fall Retreat & Welcome
- Lattice Workshops and Partner Events (approx 2-3 per semester)
- Monthly Lattice Community Events
- Lattice Spring Retreat
- Lattice Year-End Celebration
- Attending Lattice workshops with Lattice Faculty Director, Lattice Staff, etc.

Expectations for Responsible and Professional Conduct:Ìý
- Mentors will conduct themselves respectfully and in accordance with expectations of the position and university policies (FERPA, Harassment & Discrimination, Responsible Employee/Mandatory Reporter, etc.).
- Communicate consistently, thoroughly, and effectively with the rest of the mentors, with Lattice Scholars, with Lattice Program Staff, Faculty Director, etc.
- Complete weekly and semester responsibilities in a timely manner, such as submitting weekly timesheets, planning and preparing for program activities, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preference will be given to applicants who are current undergraduate students in the college of engineering.
- Previous experience or participation in the Lattice Scholarship Program is encouraged but not required.
- Previous experience in a mentoring, leadership, or similar role (orientation leader, etc.) is encouraged but not required.
Required Qualifications:
- Mentors must demonstrate a positive and supportive approach to working with others and the willingness to try and learn new things.
- Mentors are expected to maintain strong academic performance.
- Mentors must be available to work during the meetings, activities, and events outlined above.
