W. Scott McNary has more than 30 years of experience in design, management, construction engineering and inspection of a wide range of concrete and cable-stayed bridges with spans from 40 feet to more than 1,250 feet. He provides innovative and visionary leadership in structural and bridge engineering research, in particular with analysis and design. He has made fundamental contributions in innovative design solutions for civil infrastructure systems.
McNary鈥檚 work spans the United States from coast to coast and also includes projects in Canada, Israel, New Zealand and Australia.
Since 2006, McNary has been actively involved with Bridges to Prosperity. His firm provided office space to B2P in its early days, and he serves as a mentor to B2P executive director and fellow CU grad, Avery Bang. McNary has served on the executive board for the past six years and is a member of the Pillars Program, which is designed to support the executive director strategically and financially.
For 35 years, McNary has been a big believer in CU Engineering, lecturing as an adjunct professor in 1997 and hiring well over a dozen fellow CU engineers at his companies. McNary Bergeron regularly hosts civil engineering interns. He helped create the strategic plan for the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering鈥檚 Advisory Board that is still used today.
McNary received the Engineering News Record Newsmaker Award in 1992 for his work for equipment design for the precast segmental Baldwin Bridge in Connecticut. He received the American Segmental Bridge Institute Leadership Award in 1995 for industry leaders in construction engineering in the segmental bridge industry and in 2014 for career contributions in concrete segmental construction.
The Buff legacy runs through the McNary family, starting with his grandfather in 1926 and including his father and mother, his wife, Judy, and their children Erin, William and John.
