Scott Asbury聽joins the Engineering Management Program in 2025, bringing over 30 years of broad experience in aerospace engineering and program management. Scott has led NASA aircraft research and development projects and managed significant aerospace programs for payloads, satellites, 鈥渟ystem of systems鈥 missions, and human-rated space systems at Ball Aerospace and Sierra Space. As an engineering management consultant, he provides strategic guidance to various organizations on program pursuit, capture, execution, and turnaround.

Scott鈥檚 extensive portfolio includes leadership roles on high-profile projects such as the Orbital Reef Space Station, the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-1) spacecraft, the SAGE-III payload on the International Space Station, and the Ares Launch Vehicle Instrument Unit Avionics, as well as various other satellites and payloads for NASA, NOAA, and DoD missions. He has also developed and led training programs on Engineering Program Management and Human Error Management, drawing on his extensive experience in program leadership at NASA and in the aerospace industry.

Earlier in his career, Scott worked as an aerospace engineer at NASA鈥檚 Langley Research Center, where he led research on high-performance aircraft aerodynamics and human factors in aviation. While at NASA, he also trained as a commercial pilot and gained practical aviation experience by flying on scheduled routes with United Airlines.

Scott holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.S. in Engineering Management from The George Washington University. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a commercial, multi-engine, instrument-rated pilot. Recognized for his sustained and meritorious engineering and leadership contributions, Scott is a member of the Virginia Tech Academy of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering Excellence. Since 2023, he has served on the Virginia Tech Kevin T. Crofton Department of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering Advisory Board.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys fly fishing, hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, and golfing. He loves spending time outdoors with his family and dogs.
