Professor receives IEEE undergrad teaching award

Terri Fiez

ECEE professor and vice chancellor for research Terri Fiez was awarded the 2016 IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award this month at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco.

IEEE is the world鈥檚 largest professional technical association, and honors one individual each year for inspirational undergraduate teaching. Fiez was honored 鈥渇or innovative undergraduate engineering and computing curriculum development fostering student engagement and retention.鈥

鈥淭erri Fiez has helped ensure that engineering students are well prepared for their careers not only technically, but in terms of leadership, teamwork, and communication,鈥 the IEEE wrote on their website, pointing to her work to develop at Oregon State University. 鈥淏y engaging students with a real system that does something interesting, students experience the frustration of getting real systems to work and the satisfaction of accomplishing the task.鈥

Fiez also launched an online program at Oregon State that provides computer science degrees for students with non-engineering degrees. An IEEE fellow, Fiez joined the CU 麻豆影院 faculty in fall 2015.
