Meet the 2019 CWA Student Volunteer Coordinators
The Conference on World Affairs annual program is designed by volunteers and student involvement is crucial to its success. Each year two Student Volunteer Coordinators (SVC) are selected to lead the CWA student committee (a group of close to 100 CU Â鶹ӰԺ students).
This year, CU Â鶹ӰԺ seniors Izzy BoesÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýHadley Tallackson fill the SVC roles, overseeing the student committee as they invite speakers, assemble panels and assist with other year-round CWA events.
Izzy Boes is a senior from Lakewood, CO with a major in Economics and minors in Spanish and Education at CU Â鶹ӰԺ. She is involved in the Norlin Scholars program and works as an advisor in the Education Abroad office.
Izzy first got involved with CWA after learning about the event at the Involvement Fair on her third day of college. She has served multiple volunteer roles including Transportation Coordinator for the 2018 conference, which she cites as one of the highlights of her time at CU.
"I was immediately intrigued by the crazy fact that such accomplished and dynamic people come to Â鶹ӰԺ for free to engage with each other, the campus, and the Â鶹ӰԺ community," said Izzy. "I love being immersed in the energy of conference week, putting speaker names and bios to real-life faces and personalities, and experiencing the logistical challenges and feats of planning a conference."
"IÂ am excited to be involved in bringing diversity of thought and people to campus and to make the conference as marketable and accessible to students as possible."
Hadley Tallackson is a senior studying Chemical and Biological Engineering and minoring in Space Studies at CU Â鶹ӰԺ. She has conducted research at the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute and is currently working on a project in the electrical engineering department to bring electrification via microgrids to rural communities in South America.Â
Hadley began volunteering with the CWA her freshman year and has served as chair of the Science & Technology program committee and as Producer Coordinator in 2018. After attending her first conference, she knew that the CWA's environment of learning about new topics and discussing ideas with other curious people was something she wanted to be a part of.
"I love that CWA is truly about everything conceivable and I always leave the week with a revived intellectual curiosity and a desire to put more time and effort into the things I care about," said Hadley.
"CWA is an unparalleled opportunity for students to explore different ways they can fit into the world and their community with their unique knowledge and passions. I'm thrilled to work with students across many areas of CU to expand the discourse on campus."Â Â
