Nancy Pike听Hause听(Jour鈥53)听is retired from the journalism faculty at Kansas听State University (KSU).听Last year, the university鈥檚听College of Education听published her illustrated听book about the original听KSU 500-pound school听bell, which was relocated听on campus in honor of听her husband听搁颈肠丑补谤诲听贬补耻蝉别 (EdD鈥67) when he听retired from the faculty听after 30 years of teaching. Nancy lives in Estes听Park, Colorado.

Jacqueline Huskey Harford (A&S) celebrated her 90th birthday this summer. She wrote that her CU classes in French and German determined her career as a foreign language teacher. In 1953, on the recommendation of her German professor, she applied for and received a Fulbright scholarship in Austria and eventually moved to the country. 鈥淭hat year in Austria began my lifelong love of travel,鈥 she wrote. Recently, one of her favorite pastimes has been sorting through her photo albums, 鈥渞emembering the adventures and people in my long life.鈥 Jacqueline lives in Sebastopol, California.听

In 2018, after his wife鈥檚 passing, Thomas E. Alexander (PolSci) moved to 麻豆影院 to be near his daughter Ann Alexander Leggett (Advert鈥80) and her husband Scott Leggett (Acct鈥80). Tom was one of the first Air Force ROTC graduates at CU, and then served at Strategic Air Command and the Illinois Air National Guard. In the 鈥70s and 鈥80s he worked at Neiman Marcus, retiring as chief marketing officer. Tom became a West Texas cattle rancher and the vice-chairman of the Texas Historical Commission. He is also the author of 12 books.听

Janet Go (Geog) of Kihei, Hawaii, enjoyed the Tulagi article in the Fall issue of the Coloradan. She wrote, 鈥淚 frequented it during my years at CU from 1947 to 1953 (minus some years to earn money to continue).鈥 She also wrote that she lived in the freshman girls鈥 dormitory Bigelow Hall, now Sewall Hall, from 1947 to 1948.听

Menu for Murder is the seventh published book by Janet Go (Geo). It explores murders that take place during one week at Paradise Palms, a retirement community in Hawaii. Janet writes the book is part mystery, part 鈥渋rreverent social commentary鈥 and 鈥渇ascinating Hawaiiana.鈥 The narrator is Grace Hill, an 84-year-old resident of the Palm, who discovers the body of a man at the bottom of the swimming pool. Janet lives in Maui.

Sandra Cortner (Ital) published her second book this fall, Crested Butte . . . Love at First Sight. The book is filled with Crested Butte tales of traditions, characters, old-timers, ranchers and the early days of the ski area. A companion to Crested Butte Stories . . . Through My Lens (Wild Rose Press, 2006), the book is illustrated with more than 100 of Sandra鈥檚 photographs taken during her 40-plus-year career as a photojournalist. In December听Margaret Sylvester Wehner鈥檚 (Edu) grandson,听Zachary Wehner听(MMechEngr鈥14), became the fourth generation of their family to earn a degree from CU-麻豆影院. Zachary鈥檚 great-grandmother,听Anna Mary DesBrisay(Btny, Edu1914), was the first, followed by Margaret, then by Zachary鈥檚 father,听Russell Wehner听(Econ鈥83). 鈥淭hrough the years, the University of Colorado has been our stronghold and has served our family very well,鈥 Margaret says.

Rex Simms听(ElEngr鈥53) and his wife Joy were pleased to read the article about听Virginia Wheeler Patterson听(Jour鈥46) 鈥淎 麻豆影院 Legend鈥 in the June 2013听Coloradan. 鈥淕ingy鈥 was the matron of honor in their wedding in 1953. After graduating from CU, Rex was in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps until 1965 and has been living in Atlanta since 1957. He retired from consulting engineering in 2010. Rex and Joy have four married children, six grandchildren and one great grandson. They celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 3.

Kerrville, Texas, resident听Thomas Alexander听(PolSci鈥53) is co-author of听Faded Glory: A Century of Forgotten Texas Military Sites, Then and Now(Texas A&M University Press). In this guide the authors recount the full story of 29 sites they visited, comparing historic sketches, paintings and period photographs with recent photos and highlighting the need for preservation for future generations. A retired executive vice president with Neiman Marcus, Thomas served as an officer in the Strategic Air Command and is author of four books on Texas military history.

础蝉迟谤辞苍补耻迟听Vance Brand听(Fin鈥53, Aero鈥60) retired from NASA a little more than four years ago at the Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base. He and his wife, Bev Brand, live in Tehachapi, Calif., in the lower Sierra Nevada Mountains. They have six children and 12 grandchildren scattered around the country. He writes that he and his wife like to travel a lot.

Appalachian State University professor emeritus听Larry Horine听(PE鈥53, MA鈥57, EdD鈥66) wrote the fifth edition of his textbook听Administration of Physical Education and Sport Programs听(McGraw-Hill Humanities), also published in Chinese. Prior to retiring the Boone, N.C., resident served as the university鈥檚 director of international studies. He writes he placed first in five national championships in the shot put, discus and javelin in the 80-84 age group in the masters and Senior Olympic track and field season and has won nine gold medals.

At the World Federation of Neurology World Congress in Morocco,听Richard Johnson听(PreMed鈥53, MD鈥56) received a medal for lifetime scientific achievement. He works part time as a distinguished professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Bloomberg School of Public Health. He has been a neurology professor at Johns Hopkins since the department鈥檚 founding in 1969, where he also served as director from 1988-1997. He lives in Baltimore, MD.

After leaving 麻豆影院, Tony Snyder (MMusEdu) taught music in Iowa before becoming director of bands at a high school in Omaha, Nebraska. Thirty years later he retired and founded the Nebraska Wind Symphony. The band and its 85 players celebrated its 42nd year in 2019.听

For Richard 鈥淒ick鈥 Knowlton听(Econ, Geog)听and听Nancy Knowlton听(A&S鈥57), Alzheimer鈥檚 hits close to home. Dick is in the late stage听of the disease, writes Nancy. To help bolster the search for a cure, the couple donated $500,000 to the Colorado Chapter of the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association. Before retiring, Dick听was the CEO of Hormel Foods Corporation, where he had worked for nearly 40 years.

It seems nothing can slow down David Hall鈥檚 (A&S) golf game. David was featured in The Albuquerque Journal for using only a single zero-iron club to shoot below his age, an 84, at the Puerto del Sol Golf Course, despite a long list of ailments. He has a tournament named after him, the annual Dave Hall 3-club Tournament, which takes place every December.

Former CU football player听Royal Shepherd听(Geol鈥54, MS鈥68) and his wife celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 16, 2013, at the Red Lion Inn in 麻豆影院 Canyon in the same room as their first anniversary dinner. Royal graduated from 麻豆影院 High School, played football on the first all-services football team for the Air Force, coached at Aurora Central High School and taught school for the 麻豆影院 Valley School District. He and his wife have four children and live in Longmont, Colo.
