After a one-two finish at the Pac-12 Cross Country Championship in October, the CU women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 cross-country teams finished the season among the nation鈥檚 top 10, but short of national titles.
The CU women snagged third place in the Nov. 18 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky., the team鈥檚 10th podium finish since 1976. The men, who placed second in the Pac-12, came in eighth overall.
In a blustery 6K women鈥檚 race, junior Dani Jones聽(IntPhys鈥20) claimed CU鈥檚 top finish with a time of 19:47.0. The University of New Mexico ultimately took first place.
Three CU women 鈥 Jones, Sage Hurta聽(ApMath, ChemBioEngr鈥19) and Kaitlyn Benner聽(ChemBioEngr, Soc鈥18) 鈥 earned All-American honors for finishing in the top 40.
On the men鈥檚 team, freshman Eduardo Herrera (A&S鈥21) had the Buffs鈥 best race finishing 33rd in 29:55.4. He earned All-American honors.聽Top-ranked Northern Arizona won for the second year in a row.
鈥淚鈥檓 very happy with the women,鈥 said head coach Mark Wetmore. 鈥淚鈥檓 happy with some of the men 鈥 now we have a big rest and back to work for next year.鈥
