Runner Jenny Barringer, who won the 2008 NCAA steeplechase title and placed ninth in the Olympics, was chosen female college athlete of the year by the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame. She鈥檒l be honored at the Hall of Fame banquet April 14 in Denver.
Barringer, a senior, is the first Buff to earn the college athlete honor since football running back Chris Brown (A&S ex鈥02) in 2002.
Meanwhile, the CU men鈥檚 cross country team placed 12th at the NCAA Championships, the first time they haven鈥檛 cracked the top 10 since 1992. Junior Jordan Kyle finished 14th individually, earning All-America honors for the second time.
鈥淗onestly, Jordan was the only guy who had a decent race,鈥 coach Mark Wetmore says. 鈥淭he rest of the guys were way off of what they should be鈥 I and those other six guys failed to get it done today.鈥
The CU men won the NCAA regional meet for the sixth straight year, and Wetmore was named NCAA Mountain Region Men鈥檚 Coach of the Year for the 14th time.
The CU women didn鈥檛 qualify for the national meet for the first time since 1991.
