CMCI's Graduation Recognition Ceremony will be from 9 to 11 a.m.��Friday, May 6, in the CU Events Center. Doors to the CU Events Center open at 8 a.m.

CMCI Forever Buffs from the classes of 2020 and 2021 were also invited to participate.

There will be a light reception (with pastries and fruit) immediately following the��ceremony in the event tents on the Business Field.

Let’s celebrate! One hundred years ago, the CU Board of Regents formed the Department of Journalism and created a four-year journalism degree program. This year, CMCI is excited to honor the exceptional work of our students, alumni, faculty and staff since 1922. Stitch, Strut, Slay the Runway

Sometimes all it takes to bring a community together is a lesson in sewing and the catwalk. In collaboration with local partners, CMCI Assistant Professor Steven Frost used fashion design to help LGBTQ teens celebrate their own identities through a new program, Slay the Runway.

Getting a Seat at the Table

The College of Media, Communication and Information is launching a brand-new degree program this fall: The Master of Arts in Corporate Communication. Designed for the working professional, the program and its faculty experts will assist corporate communicators as they pursue the next step in their careers.

Heating Up

Media production student Jay Hager has two specific interests: filmmaking and climate change. For his media production senior capstone course, he combined them in his short documentary film, Combustion.

The sun sets on �鶹ӰԺ during the evening of Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022, the day after 8.2 inches of snow fell across the county and helped stem the rapid spread of the Marshall Fire.

Inside the �鶹ӰԺ Reporting Lab

Stacy Feldman moved to �鶹ӰԺ in April 2020 to join the Ted Scripps Fellowship in Environmental Journalism at CMCI. As the COVID-19 crisis intensified, she realized she wasn’t getting the information she needed from the local news. So, she started something new, the �鶹ӰԺ Reporting Lab, and decided to reinvent the modern news model in the process.

Student Journalists Win National Honors

Two CMCI undergraduate seniors, Lauren Irwin and Alec Levy-O'Brien, have earned top recognitions in the 2021–22 Hearst Journalism Awards, a national competition in which students submit their work to be judged by journalism professionals.

Al Nakkula Award: Injustice in Juvenile Courts

An investigative reporting series about the juvenile justice system in Rutherford County, Tennessee, won the 2022 Al Nakkula Award for Police Reporting. Produced by Nashville Public Radio’s Meribah Knight and ProPublica’s Ken Armstrong, the series revealed systemic injustice, sparked reform and demonstrated expert reporting on a secretive system.

A Healing Lens

Assistant Professor Ross Taylor turns a lens toward healing as the �鶹ӰԺ community recovers from the mass shooting at the Table Mesa King Soopers on March 22, 2021.
