Lori Bergen,听PhD, is the founding dean of the College of Media, Communication and Information and James E. de Castro Chair in Global Media Studies. As founding dean of CU 麻豆影院鈥檚 first new college in more than 50 years, Bergen is leading the charge for an interdisciplinary approach to media, communication and information education that is enriched by data and immersive technologies.

A nationally recognized leader in teaching, scholarly research and creative work, Bergen holds important roles in several major academic and professional organizations. She is a member of the Arthur Page Society and serves on the Poynter Institute鈥檚 Board of Trustees and the boards of Colorado Public Radio and the Colorado Press Association. Previously, she served on Poynter鈥檚 National Advisory Board of the Poynter Institute, was president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication and received the Scripps Howard Foundation Administrator of the Year.

Bergen came to CU-麻豆影院 from Marquette University, where she was dean of the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication.听During her tenure at Marquette, she spearheaded initiatives focused on partnering professionals and students to create high-impact journalism and improve learning.

Before joining academia, Bergen worked for several years as a journalist.

She holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in history and political science and a master鈥檚 degree in journalism and mass communication听from Kansas State University, and a PhD in mass communication with a minor in organizational behavior from Indiana University-Bloomington.
