Assistant Professor Ricarose Roque听designs and studies equitable learning environments that enable young people to become听computational creators鈥攁ble to use computing to create things they care about, develop听identities as creators听and imagine the ways they can shape the world. She draws on community-engaged, design-based听and ethnographic听approaches to study the role that social context plays in supporting听children鈥檚 participation in computing, especially children from non-dominant groups who have听been marginalized from opportunities because of race, ethnicity, immigration status听and/or听socioeconomic status.

Roque has courtesy appointments in the Computer Science and Learning Sciences and Human Development at the School of Education at CU 麻豆影院. She directs the听听research group and leads the听听project. She is听the 2023 recipient of the Jan Hawkins Award for Early Career Contributions to Humanistic听Research and Scholarship in Learning Technologies. She was previously a member of the听Lifelong听Kindergarten听research group at the听MIT Media Lab, a member of the MIT听Scratch听Team, and听faculty associate at the听Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society听at Harvard University. Roque received an SB and an MEng in computer science and engineering as well as a SM and PhD in media arts and sciences from MIT.
