Hendrik Heinz named CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s Outstanding Postdoc Mentor
Associate Professor Hendrik Heinz in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering has been named CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s Outstanding Postdoc Mentor for 2018.
The award recognizes one individual who provides exceptional mentoring, training and leadership to postdoctoral scholars.
Heinz was nominated by Juan Liu, who described Heinz as patient and willing to allow work on projects independently. Liu also praised Heinz’s counsel in career-planning and life in general.
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs awards one mentor annually as part of National Postdoc Appreciation Week. Mentors are nominated by postdoc mentees, and nominations are reviewed by a panel of seasoned faculty members. Reviewers evaluate how well the mentor creates a supportive training environment suited to the needs of individual postdocs; advocates for and guides toward professional independence; and provides regular and constructive feedback to postdocs to develop their independent careers.
Heinz joined CU Â鶹ӰԺ in 2015 and has supervised nine postdocs and more than two dozen PhD students and undergraduates during his academic career.
