Project Description

aimed to celebrate local Asian businesses in Denver as a way to uplift and support their Asian community. The project consistedÌýof a cultural geography kit that encourages exploration and interaction with businesses in the Far East Center, Asia Center, and Alameda Square along South Federal Blvd and West Alameda Ave. The kit includes a self-guided tour map and architectural drawings, a history of local Asian and Asian American struggles, and a set of interactive postcards (that will culminate in an exhibit). Their hope with theÌýkit was to prompt ways of reading and interpreting the cultural landscape of Little Saigon.Ìý

Â鶹ӰԺ the Artist

Dissent by Design (DxD) is a small collective of design researchers who work on racism, whiteness, and other forms of oppression that are perpetuated by our built environments. Members of DxD use architectural graphics, exhibit, installation, and curated experiences to engage communities in confronting contentious social and environmental injustices. Ann Dang (project lead), Ana Colón Quiñones, Jordan Lee, Paula Alvarez de Neyra Lopez, and Shawhin Roudbari worked with the small business community in the area of Little Saigon in Denver to produce this project.
