The rapid popularization of generative AI tools has created new challenges and opportunities for educators. It has also raised complex questions about how we can best prepare our students to work with AI responsibly and ethically in their future professional, personal, and civic lives. That is why the Center for Teaching & Learning is committed to providing the CU community with the support and resources they need to enter boldly into teaching and learning in the age of AI. While exploring the use of generative AI with curiosity and interest, we also ask critical questions about its limitations and potential misuses. Most importantly, we are reminded that, as human operators, we are all in this together! As a Political Science graduate student, Dr. Szentkir谩lyi spent two years听(2012-2014) serving as a Lead Graduate Student in the former Graduate Teacher Program (now housed within the Center for Teaching &听Learning), working to refine his teaching skills and to promote teaching excellence among graduate students in his home department.听It was through this meaningful experience that he discovered the importance of student-centered pedagogy and听deliberately striving to accommodate the diverse needs of our students and to effectively teach to their different strengths to help them achieve their potential.听This foundational principle has defined Dr. Szentkir谩lyi鈥檚 interdisciplinary teaching career at CU. Driverless cars are hitting the road, powered by artificial intelligence. Robots can climb stairs, open doors, win听Jeopardy, analyze stocks, work in factories, find parking spaces, and advise oncologists. In the past, automation was considered a threat to low-skilled labor. Now, many high-skilled functions, including interpreting medical images, doing legal research, and analyzing data, are within the skill sets of machines. How can higher education prepare students for their professional lives when professions themselves are disappearing?

Join CTL Professional Development Lead Preston Cumming alongside instructors of all levels to read and discuss Joseph E. Aoun鈥檚 book听听during the Spring 2024 Book Club and answer just that.听The group will meet weekly on听Wednesdays听from听January 31-March 6, 10:00-11:00 am听Mountain Time.
