As we wrap up another academic year, we are filled with gratitude for you all. We want you to know that what motivates us is our belief in the value of the work you do in the classroom. Every time you inspire a student to pursue an idea that excites them, look at something from a fresh perspective, or challenge themselves to try something new, you are having a profound positive impact on that student鈥檚 life. In other words, teaching is transformational, and the work you do matters!听In the coming weeks, we hope you all will take some time to reflect on what makes teaching meaningful to you, as well as the many positive impacts your teaching has on campus and beyond. We are grateful to you all and wish you a restful and restorative summer!

ASSETT would like to recognize Sangbok Kim, Asian Languages and Civilization, as the 2024 ASSETT Excellence in Teaching with Technology Award recipient. This award is presented to an Arts & Sciences faculty member (of any rank) who has been nominated by their peers and/or students. Awardees have a record of excellence in teaching with technology, as well as demonstrated commitment and leadership in furthering ASSETT's mission of advancing teaching and learning within CU's College of Arts and听Sciences.

Are you teaching a new course or want to update an existing course? 听We are offering a three-day workshop in May to cover course design for multiple modalities, providing a foundation of pedagogy and frameworks, technical tools/skills, and research-informed practices that can flexibly be applied to support Canvas courses. This workshop provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to developing a course AND we will have an optional last hour to explore a range of AI tools to help us with instructional design. This workshop includes three synchronous sessions (hosted on Zoom) on May 14th-16th from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. MT, held daily with an additional optional hour for AI tools, for approximately 6-9 hours of guided instruction.听Please听. 罢丑别听Center for Teaching & Learning听and the听Graduate School's Inclusive Research Mentoring (IRM) training prepares participants to enhance their academic mentoring in research environments. Our program is based on the听听mentoring curriculum and provides participants with skills and knowledge to mentor student scholars and less experienced members of their research team. For the summer of 2024, the Graduate School and CTL will offer all eight sessions听for faculty participants. Training will consist of four, one-hour sessions on听Mon, May 20th听and four, one-hour sessions on听Tue, May 21st听蹿谤辞尘 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. MT. Sessions will be held on听East Campus in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers (BIOT) building.听听

Register for Summer 2024 Book club

Join CTL Professional Development Lead Preston Cumming alongside current and future educators to read and discuss Kelly A. Hogan and Viji Sathy鈥檚 book听. During this time, we will have discussion of the text as well as ways we can apply this understanding in our own classrooms and university lives. The group will meet weekly on听Wednesdays听from听May 22nd-June听26th听蹿谤辞尘 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. MT. Book club will be hosted听remotely via Zoom.

This summer, a small cohort of CU 麻豆影院 faculty will join a University of Arizona program to support the design of undergraduate courses that integrate community-engaged, experiential learning opportunities. The program starts with a five-day, virtual, intensive workshop on听August 12th-16th and offers the opportunity to participate in a year-long community of learning. The program introduces faculty to a human-centered design approach for integrating external stakeholders and real projects in undergraduate courses. In this transformative experiential learning model, students work alongside their peers and community partners to develop desirable, feasible, and viable solutions to challenges informed by partners鈥� needs.听Please email vandna.sinha@colorado.edu听with any questions.

Register for our Summer Studio: Teaching & Learning with AI Open Access Day by May 19th

Great news! You can still register as a remote participant in our Open Access Summer Studio on Tue, May 21st. The event will feature speakers Maha Bali (The American University in Cairo) and Marc Watkins (University of Mississippi). Remote attendees can participate in facilitated roundtable discussions on Zoom after each talk.

Apply for the CTL听and ASSETT Faculty Fellows by May 28th

We are pleased to continue our campus-wide Faculty Fellows program! During fall 2024, faculty fellows will attend a seminar and engage with a cohort of colleagues around teaching topics such as course design, active learning, inclusive teaching, teaching assessments, teaching with technology and other topics of interest. At the end of this seminar, fellows will propose a project to actively address identified teaching and learning challenge(s).

Apply for Learning by Design by May 28th

The NSF-funded Active Learning Academy (ALA) is continuing this fall and begins with the Learning by Design (LbD) program. During fall 2024, participants will (a) be introduced to research-based instructional strategies and course design principles that facilitate active learning in undergraduate STEM courses and (b) cultivate a faculty learning community to explore ways to apply active learning to their courses.听At the end of the semester, participants complete and submit a teaching portfolio for their course.

The Center for Teaching & Learning, Arts & Sciences Support of Education Through Technology (ASSETT), and Office of Information Technology will host a Fall Symposium on 鈥淓quitable & Inclusive Engagement Practices for Learner Success鈥� on Thu, September听19th from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. MT. We invite proposals for presentations on any of the following topics: using technology to support student engagement, implementing equitable and inclusive teaching practices in large courses, leveraging multimedia assignments in Canvas, or using generative AI to support student learning. Presentations/workshops are 50 minutes, and we encourage presenters to build in opportunities for engagement, interaction, and Q&A. Lastly, there will also be opportunities to serve on panels.听Although we plan to offer most of these sessions in a hybrid mode (such that participants have the option of attending in-person or remotely over Zoom), we ask that presenters and panel members be in-person at the Center for Teaching & Learning (CASE E390).听.听

Looking to enhance your understanding of cultural nuances and instructional practices that better support international students or peers in your program? The Teaching International Students(TIS) micro-credential focuses on developing high-impact instructional knowledge and practices that can leverage the linguistic and cultural assets international students bring to the U.S. classroom. All CU 麻豆影院 instructors, graduate students and instructional support staff are welcome to apply for the Fall 2024 Cohort.

Apply for the Just & Equitable Teaching (JET) micro-credential Fall 2024 cohort by August 2nd

The Just & Equitable Teaching (JET) Program brings together educators from the CU 麻豆影院 community to provide professional development in social justice and equity in the classroom. The goal of this program is to equip instructors with evidenced-based resources and practices to co-create inclusive learning environments. 听All CU 麻豆影院 instructors, graduate students and instructional support staff are welcome to apply for the Fall 2024 Cohort.
