Dr. Terrenda White is a sociologist of education and uses critical theories of race and policy to understand the educational experiences of Black students and families, Black teachers, and Black leaders in public schools. Dr. White’s research interests include: the politics of school reform, teachers unions, privatization, housing and neighborhood change, and teacher diversity in predominantly Black schools and communities. She has published in major academic journals, such as Urban Education, Journal of Teacher Education, ²¹²Ô»åÌýEducation Policy Analysis Archives. Dr. White teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses, such as EDUC 6240: African American Education in the U.S.,ÌýEDUC 5075: Sociology in Education, ²¹²Ô»åÌýEDUC 3013: School & Society. Dr. White is a former elementary school teacher and has coordinated education programs for incarcerated students on Rikers Island in NYC (via the Prison Education Initiative).
