Nii Armah Sowah is a Ghanaian-born arts educator. He studied at the University of Ghana鈥檚 School of Performing Arts and holds a M.A in Expressive Arts Therapies from Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Nii Armah鈥檚 research/teaching interests include African-centered pedagogy, cross cultural education, arts for human development, African cultural philosophy and arts for social change.聽
Nii Armah鈥檚 career spans dance, choreography, voice, acting and expressive arts therapy. He is a Teaching Associate Professor at CU 麻豆影院鈥檚 Dance Program. Courses include African Dance, Performance and Community Engagement and Introduction to Dance and Culture. He has also conducted residencies and taught master classes across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, Canada and the US.聽
Nii Armah considers himself a cultural ambassador, with a passion for building/strengthening bonds across African and African diasporic communities. He founded the 麻豆影院-based 1000-Voices project and recently spearheaded the Chocolate Circle, a community-building initiative for black folk living in 麻豆影院 County.聽
Nii Armah was the recipient of the 2008 鈥淓xcellence in Teaching Award鈥 at CU 麻豆影院, and was named a living 鈥淟egend of Dance鈥 in Colorado by the Carson Brierly Giffin Dance Library, University of Denver (2016)
