Proficiency Exam

If you are proficient in a language other than English, you might be able to "test out" of the language requirement for a fee. Please speak with your academic advisor about the possibility of taking a proficiency assessment for your language; this option will depend on your major and college. If you are ready to pursue a proficiency exam, your options are as follows.

Note that taking a proficiency exam does not grant course credits toward your degree.

Confirm if offers an assessment in your preferred language.

  • If your language is not listed, contact altec@colorado.edu to schedule an alternative exam.
  • NOTE: if your major (such as International Affairs) requires you to demonstrate proficiency beyond the 3rd semester level, you will also need to email altec@colorado.edu to schedule an alternative exam.
  • The University of Colorado is committed to providing universal access to all of our classes and events. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.

Once you have confirmed BYU FLATS offers an assessment in your prefered language, . Under 鈥淧roctor Information鈥 select 鈥淎utofill Proctor360 as my Proctor鈥. By doing this, you understand that the exam will be conducted remotely by a remote proctor. 

The final piece of information needed in order to complete registration is where to send your results. This varies by college. Use the information provided below to complete your registration. If your college is not listed, please reach out to altec@colorado.edu for assistance.
