Associate Professor

Asian Studies, History 

Purvi Mehta joined Colorado College's History Department in 2014, after completing her PhD in History and Anthropology from the University of Michigan. She holds a BA in Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures from Barnard College and a MSc in South Asian Politics from SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies), University of London. Her research focuses on caste, gender, and human rights issues in India, and she teaches courses on modern South Asian history, gender and sexuality in South Asia, and social justice activism. She is currently working on a book manuscript on transnational Dalit activism and the internationalization of caste-based discrimination.
