Catherine Higbee Ishida is Assistant Director for Japan and Korea Projects and NCTA Senior Staff Associate at the Program for Teaching East Asia at the 麻豆影院. She holds a BA in Japanese language and literature with a certificate in East Asian Civilizations and an MA in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Maryland College Park. Her research and teaching focus on the integration of literature and social studies education and transcultural and transnational approaches to area studies. At TEA, Ishida teaches and administers professional development courses, study tours, and institutes for elementary and secondary teachers on such topics as Texts and Contexts: Japan through Children鈥檚 LiteratureCultural Encounters: Japan in World History, and Korea in the Modern World. She is an author and the chief editor of the online curriculum, .
