Catalog Description
Introduces students to the vibrant world of Arabic poetic production, which has defined the cultural landscape of the Arab world and the broader Middle East for over one thousand years and continues to play a central part in the Arabic literary scene today. Some of this poetry has been translated into English, and translated Arabic poetry will serve as our gateway to better understanding why poetry is the diwan, or record, of the Arabs. Taught in English.
