ANDREW SCHELLING is a poet, essay writer, and translator living on Sugarloaf, outside Â鶹ӰԺ, Colorado. He has taught at Naropa University since 1990, and served as Chair of the Dept. of Writing & Poetics from 1993-1996. Schelling is the author or editor of seventeen books and numerous chapbooks. His poetry is celebrated for its immersion in ecology, grass-roots politics, and the languages and literatures of Asia, as well as his studies in Native American linguistics. La Alameda Press recently published From the Arapaho Songbook, a sequence of 108 stanzas based in the drainage of the Indian Peaks and drawing on Algonkian language studies. A Possible Bag, issued in 2013 from Singing Horse Press, continues that project. He has published six books of India’s classical poetry and numerous essays on Asian poetic traditions in journals such as Tricycle, Vasisnava Journal, Manoa, Shambhala Sun, and Ecopoetics. Dropping the Bow: Poems from Ancient India (1991; expanded edition 2008) received the Academy of American Poets Translation Prize. In 2011 Oxford University Press, Delhi, brought out The Oxford Anthology of Bhakti Literature, edited by Schelling. He teaches at Naropa University and serves on the faculty of Deer Park Institute in India’s bird-rich Himalayan foothills.
