Biography

Mr. Smith previously served as Co-Chief Investment Officer, Fixed Income, of Janus Capital Management LLC, a position he had held since January 2006. ÌýIn that position, Mr. Smith was also a member of the Janus Executive Committee. ÌýAs Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Smith was responsible for Janus’ investment process within the firm’s fixed income division andÌýserved as Portfolio Manager of many of Janus’ fixed income strategies and funds. ÌýHeÌýhas been credited with building the firm’s fundamental fixed-income business to over 37 billion dollars in assets under management under his tenure.ÌýÌýUnder his leadership the business received multiple awards for the strong performance and risk adjusted returns generated for clients.ÌýÌýTwo of the funds he managed became the largest strategies at Janus – The Janus Balanced Fund and the Janus Flexible Income Fund. ÌýÌýÌýMr. Smith joined Janus in 2001 after spending the first 10 years of his career at Morgan Stanley in Manhattan and San Francisco. ÌýÌý

Post resignation Mr. Smith has spent time with his family and engaged in volunteer work.Ìý He is actively engaged with the University of Colorado (graduated in 1991 with a degree in Economics).Ìý He sits on the Leeds School of Business Alumni and Friends Board, chairs the Burridge Center at the Leeds Business School, sits on the University of Colorado Foundation Trustee Board and the Investment Advisory Committee for the University of Colorado Treasury.ÌýÌý He also serves as a member of Colorado Academy Board of Trustees, where his children attend school.Ìý He sits on the boards of Country Club of the Rockies (Vice President) and Colorado Golf Club.Ìý And does some advising and volunteer work for the Vail Centre in Vail Colorado.

Mr. Smith has a passion for asset management, leadership, security analysis, economics and the financial markets.Ìý He is also an advocate for woman in business and helping with the advancement and mentoring of students.
