Wednesday September 9th marked the first informational meeting for the new student group at the Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR), the CESR Fellows. The meeting was attended by 22 prospective Fellows from all classes as well as CESR Executive Director Mark Meaney, several CESR faculty and Leeds Dean David Ikenberry.
The dean opened the meeting, chatting with the students about the initiative this group was fulfilling for CESR, but also the business school as well, as he foresees starting Fellows groups within all the centers of Leeds that do not already have a student group. Dr. Meaney continued the welcome, speaking passionately of his desire to create a community of like-minded, values driven leaders that will personify the pillars CESR was built on and expand the students involved with CESR from those pursuing the Socially Responsible Enterprise (SRE) Certificate to a broader and larger group of students interested in corporate social responsibility.
"I am very interested about the possibilities of socially responsible enterprise in the ever-changing world of business that we are currently immersed in and captivated by,鈥� says junior marketing student Max Levy. 鈥淚'm very excited about CESR Fellows and I know I will benefit greatly from being a part.鈥�
CESR Fellows will provide volunteer opportunities, exclusive invites to speaker events, and opportunities for networking and mentoring. While the group will have structured student leadership roles, the guidelines directing the general membership activities are simply that, guidelines.
鈥溾�榃e want the ambitious and engaged students, but we also appreciate that they are very busy,鈥� says Director Meaney. 鈥淏y making the group structure less rigid, students can be involved as much or as little as they can or want to.鈥�
