The annual meeting of the Conference Board鈥檚 was hosted by the Center for Education on Social Responsibility (CESR) at the Leeds School of Business on May 19, in conjunction with the . The Council is a group of senior executives responsible for developing and articulating global ethics policies and compliance systems.
CESR Executive Director Mark Meaney spoke about an integrative approach to program development that leads with ethics and folds in regulatory compliance.
鈥淓thics frames the program, grounds the rules, provides employees with critical distance, and builds a strong ethical organizational culture,鈥 said Mark. In discussing the potential of retaliation by corporate executives directed against the chief ethics and compliance officer, he referenced his experience with the City of Chicago as chief compliance operations officer and first deputy director of the Office of Compliance with the Daley administration, where he was responsible for the creation of the first corporate-style ethics and compliance program for a municipality.
