English Professor Adam Bradely was announced as the recipient of the 2020 Hazel Barnes Prize, the most esteemed award a faculty member can receive from the university.聽

Nominated for his impact as both a teacher and a researcher, Bradely was described by Phillip Distefano as "exemplify(ing)the qualities of leadership, innovation and impact." Bradely is an experiment in African American literature and hip-hop culture, and is considered an authority on the 20th-century novelist Ralph Ellison. He has transformed the English department curriculum by creating a new courses, and he established the CU Laboratory for Race and Popular Culture in 2013. He has served on various leadership committees for both the university and the academic world at large, and is the author of a number of books.聽
