Abigail Stangl

Abigale Stangl conducts research aimed at elucidating and reducing the social and technical factors that exclude people with disabilities from accessing information and developing critical media and information literacies.ÌýThrough this work–which sits at the intersection of information science, education, and design–she contributes to the design of vision to touch, touch to language, and vision to language information technologies that make information accessible non-visually. She also designs and implements inclusiveÌýeducational experiences, aimed at positioning all community members to be designers and makers.ÌýShe holds a ÌýPhD in Technology, Media & Society and a Masters of Science in Information Communication Technology for Development (ICTD), both from the ATLAS Institute at CU Â鶹ӰԺ, a graduate diploma in landscape studies from Lincoln University and a Bachelors of Environmental Design degree from CU Â鶹ӰԺ. She is a founding director of the Visionaria Peru program, an initiative to support clean cooking and women’s empowerment in Peru. ÌýHer doctoral advisor wasÌýTom Yeh, assistant professor of computer science.

After receiving her PhD in Technology, Media & Society, Abigale continued as a postdoctoral research fellow in the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin, supervised by Dr. Danna Gurari.Ìý
