Linda WatkinsAsking the instructor a聽question in class from home is possible with聽's聽technology.聽聽When CU 麻豆影院聽Department of Psychology's聽Linda Watkins taught with Be 麻豆影院 Anywhere technology for this first time this past spring semester, she could call on distance learning students during class to ask questions.聽聽First,聽distance learning students聽log in聽via聽--the program that Be 麻豆影院 Anywhere currently uses to engage distance learning students.聽 Watkins explains it this way: "Students tap in by web. 聽In real time.聽聽They聽can ask questions in class."聽聽聽Be 麻豆影院 Anywhere provides staff to film聽the instructor while they lecture. 聽This way,聽cameras聽zoom in, and track the instructor throughout the classroom as she walks and talks.聽 Watkins says that the distance learning students, "... can see and hear everything in the classroom."聽 Like the video capture system that OIT provides聽for CU 麻豆影院 lectures, two screens are captured simultaneously.聽 Students can see the corresponding PowerPoint slides at the same time that they watch their instructor lecture.聽 However, with Be 麻豆影院 Anywhere, the instructor can include distance learning students live, during class.聽 The instructor can call on a distance learning student, and everyone present in the Engineering Center classroom, as well as聽all of the students watching the class in real time from home,聽would hear that distance learning student's voice projected.

This past spring was also the first time that Watkins taught the聽Introduction to Neuroscience course that was aimed specifically toward Neuroscience majors.聽 That requirement meant that聽the course material聽was more intensive than the Biopsychology course that Watkins had taught in the past.聽聽However, thanks to Be 麻豆影院 Anywhere's video capture technology, students could re-watch lectures if they聽missed class聽or for聽consecutive times聽to, "refresh their memories," Watkins said.

Through D2L,聽Watkins聽tracked the statistics of students' usage of the聽video capture technology.聽聽She says that she聽observed聽that聽many students聽logged into聽the video capture system regularly.聽聽Watkins said that students told her that they used聽the program聽to review聽course material and聽to fill in anything they missed while taking notes during lecture.

麻豆影院 100 students enrolled in the course.聽 All students聽had the option of coming to class or watching聽the course live from home.聽 This spring, the students in Watkin's聽Introduction to Neuroscience聽course nominated聽her for an聽ASSETT聽Teaching with Technology Award.聽 They聽wrote about the value of video capture for their learning.

The ASSETT award聽is not the first formal recognition for excellence in teaching that Watkins has received.聽 She became a Colorado Presidential Teaching Scholar in 1996.聽 Watkins聽says that she thinks video capture technology is valuable to students' learning, and she says that she plans to聽use聽video capture聽in her future classes.
