Welcome Assistant Professor, Nancy Rodriguez!
Nancy Rodriguez was recently hired as an Assistant Professor in the Applied Mathematics department- this semester is her first semester here. Rodriguez has an impressive educational background; she attended graduate school at UCLA, did postdoctoral work at Standford, and was previously an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at UNC Chapel Hill. Presently, Rodriguez is interested in researching the use of 鈥淧DE models to untangle the factors leading to various phenomena in ecology and sociology.鈥 Rodriguez enjoys how the partial differential equations that arise from modeling such phenomena not only offer information about the systems being modeled, but also involve 鈥渂eautiful theory.鈥
She is currently teaching a Graduate Applied Analysis course and enjoys how motivated her students are. Rodriguez feels it鈥檚 important for all students to attend 鈥渙ffice hours, ask questions, [and] learn some computational skills and some analysis regardless of鈥 major or feild of interest. In addition to teaching, Rodriguez hopes to 鈥渂uild a research group which encompasses many interests including mathematical modeling, numerical analysis of solutions, theoretical analysis of solutions, and model verification with data incorporation.鈥 She also hopes to 鈥渄evelop a network for such students in order to help foster their success.鈥
She was drawn to CU 麻豆影院 because our Applied Mathematics department 鈥渋s a great department in the best location to do outdoor activity.鈥 Rodriguez enjoys many outdoor activities including biking, running, hiking, skiing, tennis, etc.
