Introduction to Systems Engineering Specialization
This specialization in leadership and management teaches you a comprehensive and well-rounded approach to designing, creating, and overseeing complex systems. You will learn how to take a project from its initial concept to a fully functional product that's tailored to meet the needs of the customer. You will also gain the skills to effectively manage costs, schedules, and risks associated with the project. Throughout the specialization, you will learn how to identify and define the different parts of a system, understand its life cycle, and apply engineering techniques using real-world examples. By the end, you'll have the knowledge and language skills to collaborate efficiently with your project team and understand the specialized field of systems engineering.
In this specialization, you will:
- Learn the basic principles, techniques, and procedures used in industry-standard systems engineering
- Recognize the different stages involved in the entire life cycle of a system, starting from the initial customer interaction and continuing until the retirement of the product
- Understand the methods of program control that are utilized to ensure that a specific scope of work is achieved while staying within the allocated budget and adhering to the designated schedule
- Define systems engineering and gain an understanding of the systems engineering approach
Courses
- The Need for Systems Engineering
- Applying Systems Engineering to the Design Process
- Systems Engineering and Program Management
This specialization can be taken for academic credit as part of CU Â鶹ӰԺ’s Master of Engineering in Engineering Management (ME-EM) degree offered on the Coursera platform. The ME-EM is designed to help engineers, scientists, and technical professionals move into leadership and management roles in the engineering and technical sectors. With performance-based admissions and no application process, the ME-EM is ideal for individuals with a broad range of undergraduate education and/or professional experience. .
