Augmented Intelligence: The Future of Generative AI and Computing- Jules White

Talk: Augmented Intelligence: The Future of Generative AI and Computing

  • 听 Apr. 18, 2025
  • 听 4鈥5 p.m.*
  • 听 Center for British and Irish Studies (CBIS), , 1720 Pleasant St, 麻豆影院, CO 80309

Generative AI represents a new paradigm in computing鈥攐ne that centers human ideas as the starting point for computational action. Rather than relying on traditional programming, this approach allows people to express complex goals in natural language, making it possible to 鈥渃ompute on thought鈥 across disciplines. This talk explores how generative AI reshapes our relationship with technology by enabling systems that respond to intent, refine outputs through dialogue, and integrate diverse tools and data. The result is a more interdisciplinary model of innovation, where domain experts, creatives, and technologists collaborate through shared language. At its core, this shift is about augmented intelligence: amplifying human creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving鈥攏ot replacing it鈥攕o that computing becomes a more fluid extension of human thought.

If you are unable to attend in person, this event will be live streamed for your convenience. Join the live stream at 4pm.

听A recording of the talk will be posted on this page after the event.

Workshop: Prompt Engineering

  • 听 Apr. 18, 2025
  • 听 1:30鈥2:30 p.m.
  • 听 Conference Room E250, Center for Academic Success and Engagement (CASE), 1725 Euclid Ave, 麻豆影院, CO 80309听

Large language models respond to instructions and questions posed by users in natural language statements, known as 鈥減rompts鈥. Although large language models will disrupt many fields, most users lack the skills to write effective prompts. Expert users, who understand how to write good prompts, are orders of magnitude more productive and can unlock significantly more creative uses for these tools. This workshop introduces attendees to the patterns and approaches for writing effective prompts for large language models. Anyone can attend the workshop and the only required knowledge is basic computer usage skills, such as using a browser and accessing generative AI models like Copilot Chat.
